Big Recall: Kellogg Announces Eggo Recall After Listeria Scare

About 10,000 cases of Nutri-Grain Eggos could be contaminated

If you’ve bought a 10-pack box of Nutri-Grain Eggos recently, check the “Best if used by” date before you pop them in the toaster. Kellogg Company recalled approximately 10,000 cases of the breakfast favorite yesterday after discovering that they could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes through routine tests.

No other Eggo products are being flagged for recall. The company is yet to receive reports of illnesses from the public.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with impaired immune systems. Short-term symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at risk of miscarriage and stillbirth.

Keep an eye out for the following if you have a box of these in your freezer or are at the supermarket:

  • 12.3 oz 10-count box
  • UPC Code: 38000 40370
  • Best If Used By Date: NOV 21 17 or NOV 22 17

If you do have a recalled box of waffles, Kellogg Co. urges you to contact the company for a full refund. Call 1-800-962-1413, Monday through Friday from 9 am-6 pm ET or visit the site's contact page to let the company know.
