One-year-old Lucas Warren from Dalton, Georgia is making headlines for more than his cuteness. Son of Jason and Cortney Warren, Lucas has just been named this year’s Gerber baby. Chosen from more than 140,000 submissions, Lucas is the first Gerber Spokesbaby with Down syndrome.

His mom Cortney entered Lucas to the contest after a relative showed her an ad. She posted the pic on Instagram and the rest is history. Gerber’s decision will put special needs kids in the spotlight in a positive and public way.

The Gerber Baby contest started more than 90 years ago.

Said Lucas’ mom Cortney in a statement: “We hope this opportunity sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world—just like our Lucas.” We couldn’t agree more.
