Kids might want to zip around on the back of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with you, but it’s not the safest activity. What’s even more troublesome is that some kids drive these on their own, despite not being developmentally capable of operating them, says the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). At least 53 children across the country died and an estimated 26,800 took a trip to the ER as a result of injuries from riding ATVs in 2016. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises parents that ATVs should never be used by children younger than age 16.
