“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens has returned to the stage at the McCarter Theatre Center for the first time since 2019! This annual holiday tradition is beloved by parents and children and this year, it’s adapted and directed by Lauren Keating, who grew up in the Princeton area and saw the show every year. Performances have been running since December 7, and you have through December 24 to catch this uplifting show.

The audience follows Ebenezer Scrooge on a magical journey through Christmas past, present and future. For the first time at McCarter, a female actor (Dee Pelletier) is playing the role of Scrooge as a male character. We had a chance to see the show and the kids in the audience were rapt with attention by this classic story and the costumes and scenery. By the end of the performance, everyone in the theater felt the spirit of the season and the same sense of wonder and generosity that Scrooge discovers on his journey.

“We can’t wait to welcome all of you back to this magical holiday journey once again, and we are thrilled to welcome Lauren Keating!” says McCarter Artistic Director Sarah Rasmussen.
