Galentine’s Day (coined by the TV series Parks & Recreation) has become all the rage, giving women a chance to celebrate their important friendships on Feb. 13th. So head out with the gal pals and enjoy some me time. Go get a massage or mani-pedi, have a nice dinner or try one of these fun ideas:
Enjoy Some Bubbles
You’ve likely tried or talked about a painting night with your friends, but there are plenty of other fun DIY classes out there, too. Check out B.Witching Bath Co. in Ridgewood where you can design your own signature bath fragrance and roll a beeswax candle. Or make your own soap at a Sip & Soap at Handmade Soap Coach in Kearny. And try your hand at candle-making or glass fusion at the Pink Elephant in Asbury Park.
Try Something New Up in the Air
Imagine yourself exercising while feeling chill in a hammock. If the idea appeals, you’ll want to try aerial yoga at JaiPure Yoga in Montclair. After your workout you can hang in the studio’s juice bar and café. Or if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, try an aerial silks class (think Cirque du Soleil), at Wellness on the Green in Morristown.
Go on a Great Escape
Escape rooms are popular for all ages. They make a great date night or a fun activity with the kids, but they’re even more fun with a group of girlfriends. Try the Amazing Escape Room (with locations in Freehold, Montclair, Princeton and Cherry Hill … with more opening soon) where you and your friends can use your puzzle-solving skills. Or if you want something a little more intense or scary, try Escape Room NJ in Hackensack, where you’ll discover custom themes for every group.
Plan a Weekend Getaway
If you can swing it, take a quick weekend or even overnight to the Mount Airy Casino and Resort in the Poconos, or the Mohegan Sun that opened in the Poconos as well. These are a nice alternative to heading to Atlantic City or Northern Connecticut. Mount Airy has a spa, a huge indoor pool with cabanas and some nice nearby hikes if it’s not freezing out. Mohegan Sun is a little more budget friendly, but still offers a spa, indoor pool and fine dining options. Both will keep you busy trying to win some extra cash at the slots or tables.
