3 NJ Things to Book a Sitter for in July

Looking to get out of the house without the kids? Here are some great date night ideas worthy of a babysitter.

AC’s Food & Wine Festival

Want a date night that’s really a weekend getaway? Head to Atlantic City’s “Taste” Food & Wine Festival July 23–25 at the Claridge Hotel to sample some ultra fine wines and food from restaurants and vineyards across the region, get a little gambling in and a make much-needed mini-break out of it. The festival includes cooking demonstrations by top chefs, appearances by Hell’s Kitchen stars (the Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill is here in the Caesars casino, after all) and other celeb Food Network appearances, wine tastings, the works. 609-398-4450; tickets plus fees are $79.74. ac.gourmetshows.co

Dinner with a View

Summer date nights are the best date nights. Choosing a great restaurant with a gorgeous view of the New York City skyline takes it over the top. Liberty House, in Liberty State Park, is a lovely pick, with elegant outdoor seating, sweeping cityscapes and farm-to-table cuisine. Or try Waterside Restaurant and Catering in North Bergen and talk about your week while you sit on the open-air patio overlooking the Hudson River. Chart House in Weehawken is another good choice—it’s got an incredible seafood menu and beautiful Manhattan waterfront views.

A Moonlit Raft Ride

Head to the Poconos July 11 or July 25 to float along the Lehigh River by moonlight, with glow sticks to light your way. A guide will help you navigate the rapids and spot wildlife that only comes out in the dark. After the trip, hang out by the bonfire, sip a glass of wine, snack on cheese and crackers and roast up a s’more or two. $94.99/person; Pocono Whitewater, 1519 State Route 903, Jim Thorpe, PA; 800-944-8392.
