Why You Should Take the Kids to the SeaGlass Carousel ASAP

This beautiful new downtown attraction is worth the trek into the city.

You may have seen pictures of this new ride floating around on your Facebook feed. But what the heck is it? This luminous carousel is the new centerpiece of The Battery in downtown Manhattan.

SeaGlass At The Battery is a gorgeous new carousel filled with glowing fiberglass fish that lift and twirl passengers in irregular fishy swim patterns. And it’s a ton of fun.

Housed in a nautilus-inspired dome, the ride  is tucked into the pretty flora of Battery Park and is a breathtaking space. You climb inside one of the 18 massive fish, buckle in, and then sit back as the fish glide up and down and rotate up to 160 degrees as if by magic—all synchronized to music and a LED light show that makes you feel like you’re underwater. We went the weekend it opened and waited about 40 minutes, but were so entranced by the fish that the time flew by.

Insider tip:  Ride at night, so you can really experience the gorgeous light show at its brightest and most colorful.
