The Golden Popsicle Awards 2015: North Jersey Winners
The results are in! Here are the winners and runners up of the Golden Popsicle Awards North Jersey.
JW’S Doo Wop & Ice Cream Parlor
1614 A Union Valley Rd., West Milford
This spot (known for great ice cream and burgers) is a trip back to the ‘50s, complete with vintage Americana posters, red vinyl seats and functioning jukeboxes. The menu includes crowd-pleasers like hotdogs, hamburgers and waffle fries but also delicious options like burgers named for classic celebs like the Frank Sinatra (fried onions with mushrooms and cheese). Plus, there’s outdoor seating and a playground just steps away for after dinner fun.
Tick Tock Diner
281 Allwood Rd., Clifton
This huge diner always makes top New Jersey lists and has been featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Plus, it’s got that classic, chrome, Art Deco exterior look that diner-aficionados love. Open 24 hours a day, you can grab a burger or breakfast any time. Don’t forget the disco fries!
586 N. Franklin Tpke., Ramsey
With an award-winning thin crust, this North Jersey favorite (which you’ll spot easily: just look for the tall, skinny sign and the horse on the roof), has been rolling dough for its classic pies since 1947. More to love: the model trains on display and the wide selection of drinks (including a constantly rotating selection of regional brews). Bring cash: Credit cards aren’t accepted.
Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar
The burgers here are both delicious and inventive —patties get dressed with chili or made with Kobe beef and topped with wild mushrooms. Everything on the menu goes perfectly with the tasty truffle fries and a changing selection of milkshakes (which rival most local ice cream spots). Even better, throughout the summer, kids eat for $3 (with the purchase of an adult meal).
Van Dyk’s Homemade Ice Cream
145 Ackerman Ave., Ridgewood
This hole-in-the-wall ice cream spot is tucked away in a tree-lined residential neighborhood and is known for its mint chocolate chip and specialty homemade flavors like vanilla peanut butter swirl, peppermint chip and cake batter. Come hungry—the scoops are big!
These guys have been making more than 40 cupcake flavors with a twist since 2007. Instead of topping chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with various frosting flavors, á lá most bakeries, Mr. Cupcakes takes its unusual toppings and bakes them right into the batter. The legendary Peanut Butter and Jelly and Fruity Pebbles are must-tries, and the Holy Cannoli and Roberto’s Flan are tasty newcomers. Also, visit their other locations in Hackensack and Oradell.
