Shoppers, get ready. People across the U.S. are prepping for one of the biggest shopping days of the year after Black Friday: Cyber Monday.
It’s no doubt you know at least someone planning to shop Black Friday – the day after Thanksgiving when stores offer big markdowns on select items to draw in holiday shoppers.
You also probably are aware of at least a few people who, instead of fighting crowds on the Friday after Thanksgiving, plan to shop online the Monday directly after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday. I am a huge fan of online shopping, and have shared on my website, Mom Home Guide, how I purchased my bread maker, holiday gifts and even children’s bedroom furniture, online. In fact, I do about 95 percent of my holiday shopping online, and have been doing so for years.

If you don’t want to fight the crowds on Thanksgiving weekend or you also prefer to shop from the comfort of your home, then Cyber Monday might be for you. Now a major shopping day, Cyber Monday is a big day for online shoppers, as that’s when online retailers offer enticing deals on merchandise for holiday shoppers. In fact, FedEx is predicting this Cyber Monday to be its biggest shipping day in history, thanks to an estimated record number of online shoppers expected to make purchases online that day. FedEx predicts that it will ship in excess of 22 million shipments on Cyber Monday, which would be a record for Fed Ex.

Here’s how to get the best of Cyber Monday’s deals:
- Plan Ahead: It’s not too early to get your Cyber Monday engines started. Already, merchandisers like Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl’s, Home Depot, and JcPenney have Cyber Monday and Cyber Week pages posted online. Visit those pages for information on merchandisers’ Cyber Monday offerings and how to keep tabs on their Cyber Monday deals.
- Subscribe to Email Updates: From their home pages, most online merchandisers offer shoppers the ability to subscribe to its emails on upcoming deals and sales. Subscribe to your favorite online retailers’ emails so you will be alerted to any new Cyber Monday offerings as they come up.
- Get Social: Get the inside scoop on Cyber Monday discounts by following your favorite online retailers through social media. Like your fave online retailers on Facebook and follow them on Pinterest and Twitter. Merchandisers like Amazon can be expected to Tweet on Twitter and to post frequently on Facebook about Cyber Monday discounts.
- Look for Coupon Codes: Coupon codes are always a great way to get extra discounts on online shopping, and Cyber Monday is no exception. On Google or your search engine, type in the name of your targeted retailer and the phrase, “coupon code,” to locate any coupon codes being offered for free Cyber Monday free shipping or merchandise discounts. Also be sure to check out Free Shipping.org’s Cyber Monday page for retailers offering free shipping on Cyber Monday—a Cyber Monday deal might be a good one, but having to pay for shipping for your purchases can offset those deals.
