4 Valentine's Day Books You're Sure to Adore

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and there's no better time to share a sweet story with your kids. Here are four choices our family adores, and I'm sure yours will too!

Lilly's Chocolate Heart by Kevin HenkesLilly's Chocolate Heart

This adorable tale about Lilly (of Lilly's Plastic Purple Purse fame) and her quest to find the perfect place for her last piece of Valentine's Day candy is one toddlers—and their parents—can relate to all too well. Written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes (Greenwillow Books, 2003); $6.99; ages 1+.

Snuggle Puppy! by Sandra BoyntonSnuggle Puppy! (A Love Song)

If you haven't read—or sung—this book, I strongly urge you to experience this "year-round valentine from parent to child." Kids delight in hearing this sweet and silly song (and I have yet to met an adult who can resist the irresistible rhythm and rhyme). The book is also a great gift for new parents. Written and illustrated by Sandra Boynton (Workman Publishing, 2003); $6.95; up to 2 years.

Zombie in LoveZombie in Love

This humorous and slightly gruesome love story is about a zombie named Mortimer who can't seem to find the ghoul of his dreams no matter what he tries—but don't worry, there is a happy ending. Written by Kelly DiPucchio and illustrated by Scott Campbell (Atheneum Books, 2011); $12.99, ages 4 to 8.

Fancy Nancy Heart to HeartFancy Nancy: Heart to Heart

Fancy Nancy is as fabulous as ever in this Valentine's Day tale, which comes with fancy stickers kids can use to make valentine cards of their own. Written by Jane O'Connor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glassner (HarperFestival, 2009); $4.99; ages 4 to 8.
