Tim Gunn protégés unite in this DIY Fashion class. Students use scissors and trimmings like lace, beads and studs to transform garments from ho-hum to extraordinary in this 10-week-long course. $280 for non-members; $250 for members plus a $15 materials fee.

This Italian-inspired cooking studio is perfect practice for the teen who dreams of competing on Master Chef. He’ll learn the ins and outs of kitchen safety, develop knife skills and brush up on a ton of classic recipes that will even impress his old-school grandmother. Plus, he’ll learn baking basics by making sweet treats like chocolate-covered strawberries and lemon meringue pie. $59 per class.

The Art Garage

When third period art class is only scratching the surface, enroll him in more intensive studies that will keep him creating long after school is out. Build a baseline with Drawing Foundations and Beginner Animation, or let your Marvel-obsessed kid invent his own exaggerated, over-the-top characters in Superhero Anatomy or Teen Toon Boom Studio, where he can do it using real animation software.
