DENTISTRY FOR CHILDREN
Dr. Natasha Mathias and the Sparkles Dentistry team believe that going to the dentist can be fun. Known by patients as “Dr. Sparkles,” Dr. Mathias designed her practice to be a dental home for kids that’s safe, fun and, most importantly, pain-free. The practice uses a variety of approaches to help children through potentially difficult dental visits.
Fostering Healthy Habits
Strong believers in prevention, Dr. Mathias and her team educate patients and parents on the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and positive habits. It’s their mission to help patients stop associating dentistry with fear. The fun, lively office hosts family-friendly events throughout the year, too.
“We’re not here merely to fix cavities…we’re here to build relationships and help foster healthy habits. We closely monitor behavior, growth and development,” Dr. Mathias says. “We get to know our patients and their families and customize every visit, from treatment to the goodies they receive at the end.”
Delivering Comprehensive Care
The team includes a board-certified anesthesiologist to provide in-office sedation, an orthodontist who specializes in early-intervention orthodontics, an oral myologist and speech and feeding therapists who provide functional evaluations and comprehensive care. “Pediatricians and adult/family dentists don’t always have time to address oral findings and thoroughly examine a toddler’s mouth,” she explains, which is why she recommends that a first dental visit occur at age 1.
Dr. Mathias received her bachelor’s dental degree in India and DMD and specialty certificate at Rutgers School of Dentistry, where she received extensive training in growth and development, orthodontics and treating special needs patients.
“Most children associate going to the dentist with pain and drills…but my parents tell me their kids can’t wait until their next visit,” Dr. Mathias says.
"Dr. Mathias along with her staff is very welcoming the minute we walk in her door. She's extremely professional but at the same time very warm and sweet. My daughter, who has special needs, loves going to Dr Mathias. She has a knack with my daughter and gets her to stay calm so she can do her job. We are very lucky that we found her and we are never leaving!" -Lori, Secaucus
"Dr. Mathias has been our pediatric dentist for over 13 years. I trust her judgment and recommendations regarding all my kids' dental needs. She is more than your family dentist--she is your friend. Dr. Mathias is warm, empathetic and takes a real interest in you and your family. My son has mild special needs and had difficulties with dental exams and procedures as a younger child. Dr. Mathias knew how to talk to him, keep him calm and was incredibly compassionate. For example, Dr. Mathias gave my son an opportunity to help with clerical duties in the office. This helped with his self-esteem and gave him volunteer hours for school. You couldn't ask for a better pediatric dentist who not only excels at her craft, but is compassionate and personable!" -Helen, Glen Ridge
"Dr. Natasha cares. She takes time to teach our kids and us about our teeth and healthy living. She is very knowledgeable and is always willing and able to answer all of our questions. She has picked up things our pediatrician missed. Our kids love her." -Ian, Montclair
"Dr. Mathias is an amazing dentist who puts all four of my children at ease every visit. She even paints my little one's nails during the visit! Her approach is conservative which we appreciate. I never feel pushed or rushed into procedures. She has our kids' best interest at heart." -Sarina, Verona
