Apple Picking in New Jersey! Where to Pick Your Own 2011
More than 30 apple varieties to pick off trees
New Jersey isn't called the Garden State for nothing! There are bushels of places where you can get outside and enjoy the rolling hills, the country air, and the thrill of picking your own apples right off the tree.
The apple-picking season in New Jersey begins in September and runs through the end of October—the exact end date depends on Mother Nature. In orchards throughout the state, you’ll find more than 30 varieties to grab off trees, including Macoun (sweet for snacking), Golden Delicious (good for pies and baking), Winesap (New Jersey’s oldest variety), and Granny Smith (tart for all purposes).
Here are more than 20 farms and orchards for you and your family to go to pick your own apples in north central New Jersey. Some places offer wagon rides and hayrides to and from the farm’s picking area, others allow you to roam. Before you go, call to confirm availability, variety of crops, fees, and the hours open for picking. Also please note: pets are not allowed at most places.
