Ongoing Goings-on Around New Jersey

lakeshore learning bird craftWith family members often having conflicting schedules, we know it can be difficult to find a time when everyone can do something together. With that in mind, we've found some goings-on that are ongoing--some daily, some weekly--so you can drop-in on a day that works for the whole family. 

Barnes and Noble; Paramus

  • Storytime: stories for kids ages 2–4, Mondays, 11 am
  • Stories and Crafts: for kids ages 3–5, Wednesdays, 11 am and 4 pm

Bergen County Zoo; River Edge

  • World of Butterflies Exhibit: see nature’s beautiful palette, May 25–Sept. 4

The Brook Academy; Paramus

  • Sunday Preschool Activities: play gym, bounce house, arts and crafts, movie,  and popcorn, plus coffee, pastries, and Wi-Fi for parents, Sundays, 10 am–4 pm

Digiplex Rialto Theater; Westfield

  • Mommy and Me Matinees: stroller parking, changing stations, brighter lights, and lower sound make these showings tailored to mothers with infants, Wednesdays

Environmental Education Center; Basking Ridge

  • Alive: see live critters from around the swamp and the world, May 12–June 8

Express Yourself Studios; Maplewood

  • Family Fun Night of Art: enjoy pizza and beverages and make a frame-worthy piece of artwork, Saturdays
  • Crafty Toddler Workshop: children ages 2-4 are invited to play with paint, pinch and pound clay, collage with glue, and explore different art materials. A different project each week. Moms, dads, or caregivers can participate too, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, 10 am
  • Studio Saturday: drop in for a session of art and fun using a mix of mediums and materials, Saturdays, 11 am

Hoboken Historical Museum; Hoboken

  • Ta-Da! Artworks by Beth Lucas: see the work of Macy’s Parade Studio head scenic artist Beth Lucas, May 6–July 1

Imagine That!!! Discovery Museum; Florham Park

  • Weekend crafts: upcoming crafts include making seashells, fans, neckties for Dad, and grad caps, weekends throughout the year

Lakeshore Learning Stores; East Brunswick, Hackensack, Cherry Hill

  • Crafts for Kids (shown): make a different craft every session. Upcoming crafts include creating a snazzy garden snail, a flip-flop notepad, a key keeper, a door hanger, and a star-spangled noisemaker, Saturdays, 11 am-3 pm

Liberty Science Center; Jersey City

  • In the Dark: explore cool, dark, and mysterious ecosystems like caves, nocturnal forests, and the ocean floor, May 28–Sept. 3

Mahwah Museum; Mahwah

  • Donald Cooper Model Railroad: children and adults can see seven model trains run at a time, weekends, 1-5 pm

Morris Museum; Morristown

  • Harmony in Clay: The Elegance and Refinement of Song Ceramics: this exhibition showcases the ceramic arts of China’s Song Dynasty, through June 24
  • Molecules and Health: in this interactive exhibition, children and families will learn what molecules do and how they shape our bodies and the world around us, April 12–July 1

Newark Museum; Newark

  • Planetarium shows: Heart of the Sun and Zula Patrol 2: Down to Earth, through 
June 17
  • emPOWERED: Your Renewable Energy Future: test a wind turbine, operate a solar panel, and more, opens May 19
  • Gallery Adventures: pick up a gallery adventure pack filled with games, activities, touchable objects, and more and go on an adventure, weekends

Princeton University Art Museum; Princeton

  • Artful Adventures: this series of self-guided tours and activities is available for families during museum hours

Reeves-Reed Arboretum; Summit

  • Discovery Center Saturdays: drop by with your child for hands-on exploration of nature topics through stories, crafts, and experiments, Saturdays, 9 am-1 pm

Trailside Nature and Science Center; Mountainside

  • Saturday Outdoor Adventures: weekly themed hikes, 10 am
  • Storytime: Saturdays and Sundays, 3 pm
  • Weekly Solar Watch: attend a solar viewing session, Saturdays, 1 pm

West Windsor Arts Center; Princeton Junction

  • WW 33 Art Show: see the works of artists ages 13–33  who reside in Mercer or attend the WW-P Schools, May 6–June 8
