Indulge in sugary fried bliss on June 1 for National Doughnut Day.

Donut or Doughnut? No matter how you spell it, these delicious treats are even better when they're free.

Friday, June 1, is National Doughnut Day, a holiday you can celebrate with a free tasty treat at places like Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme (which has locations in Collingswood and Jersey City) will give you one free doughnut of any variety, no purchase necessary. Dunkin' Donuts (which has locations all over NJ)  is offering a free donut with any beverage purchase.

The Salvation Army is credited with introducing the sweet treat to Americans and celebrates the holiday annually. Donut Lassies started serving the baked goods to soldiers in World War I more than a century ago.

To celebrate, get your hands on your favorite goodie, whether it’s jelly, chocolate glazed or old fashioned. These NJ eateries are also running specials for the holiday:

Alstede Farms
From June 1-3 in honor of National Doughnut Day and the farm’s annual Strawberry Festival, the kiddos can indulge in a Colossal Doughnut Sundae. The name’s no lie: it comes with three fresh apple cider donuts, homemade strawberry ice cream, whipped cream, fresh berries and chocolate sauce. While you can’t get it for free, it’s worth the $8.99.

Donuts Time Cafe
This off-the-radar spot specializes in novelties like Donutwiches (try the Elvis Style, peanut butter, banana and bacon on a maple donut) and giant customizable donut cakes. Pre-order your rings of delish online to cop a cool 10 percent off for this tasty holiday. Get there early: the first 50 customers get a free lemon cake donut.

Duck Donuts
Avalon, Green Brook Twp., Marlton, Middletown
This franchise started out on the Outer Banks, but luckily Duck’s (and this season’s exclusive key lime icing) made its way to NJ. Score one bare, cinnamon sugar, or powdered sugar donut, plus an exclusive BOGO coupon that’s redeemable through June 17.

Glaze Donuts
New Milford, Paramus, West Caldwell
This shop makes small-batch donuts and epic coffee, but is best known for the Italian Rainbow Donut. To celebrate, Glaze is giving away one free plain glazed donut (no purchase necessary). Make any purchase and get three classic donuts on the house.

Montclair Bread Company
This locale calls itself “a bread bakery with a doughnut addiction.” Stop by for a free doughnut hole with every purchase. If you’re really feeling lucky, preorder a doughnut box to share with the whole fam. If you find The Golden Doughnut in your box, you win a free doughnut every day for a year.

The Office Tavern and Grill
Morristown, Ridgewood and Summit
This traditional American spot of course boasts top-tier buffalo wings. The resto is using its chicken skills for one day only to create the Buffalo Chicken Donut, a crispy chicken ring glazed with hot buffalo sauce, blue cheese drizzle and celery sprinkles.

Purple Glaze
Asbury Park
Here, you’ll get a free donut with any purchase. Go for the namesake Purple Glaze (blueberry glaze, purple sprinkles), splurge on the Holey Cannoli (chocolate icing, mini chocolate chips, homemade cannoli filling) or go for salty-sweet with the Wake ‘n’ Bacon (maple glaze, bacon bits).

Shannon Rose
Clifton, Ramsey
On June 1 only, you can tackle the most massively delicious savor/sweet meal ever: the Doughnut Burger. Yes, this really does exist. Grilled beef gets topped with pepper jack and bacon jam, then gets sandwiched on a glazed doughnut. You’re welcome.

Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas
This gourmet twist on a simple snack is sure to please foodies and winos alike. Head here for dinner this Friday for an annual dessert fave: the Red Wine-Glazed Doughnut. Savor homemade dough stuffed with decadent Nutella, drizzled in a Montepulciano red wine glaze and placed on top of a sweet creme anglaise.
