Big Fun in the Big Apple in June

34th Annual Museum Mile Festival


Fifth Ave. from 82nd to 105th St., known as “Museum Mile,” is home to 10 museums, which will be free and open to the public. Visitors can expect outdoor art activities for children, street entertainment, live music, a parade, and more, 6–9 pm, June 12

American Ballet Theatre


ABTKids Pre-Performance Workshop Series: head to the Metropolitan Opera House where children ages 4–12 are guided through a ballet warm-up and taught a short piece of choreography based on the performance they are about to see, 11 am, June 2 and 23

American Crafts Festival


Outside the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, you’ll see craft displays and demonstrations, live entertainment, and more, June 9, 10, 16, 17

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party


Madison Square Park is the place to go for authentic southern barbecue, live music, seminars, demonstrations, and giveaways, 11 am–6 pm, June 9–10

Brooklyn Children’s Museum


Wild Water Weekend: kids can beat the heat by competing in splashy-splashy relay races on the museum roof, quench the garden’s thirst with watering cans, and join a model sailboat race, June 9–10

Children’s Sports and Fitness Expo


At Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, enjoy sports clinics in archery, fencing, and more, as well as live entertainment, games, and zumba for adults, 10 am–4 pm, June 9

Dimenna Children’s History Museum


Hoops to Halo: Centuries of Games Kids Play: families practice their history detective skills with a scavenger hunt, learn about historical games, build their own video game prototypes, and more, reservations required, ages 7–12, June 17

Staten Island Children’s Museum


sssSecond sssSaturday sssSnakes: touch, hold, and learn about snakes from all over the world, 12 pm, June 9; Sunday Music with Patrick: make music outside with children’s performer Patrick, 2 pm, June 17

The High Line


Step to the High Line Workshop and Showcase: guests of all ages learn to step with Stomp the Yard star and stepping pro Seye Charles. After, New York step teams perform in a one-hour showcase, 3 pm, June 16 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art


Cirène: Multimedia Fairy Tales: see and hear Arab tales through live dance, music, painting, and animation, 3 pm, June 16

Washington Market Park


Princess Katie and Racer Steve Concert: this free concert brings music, laughter, singing, and dancing. Kids are encouraged to dress up like rock stars, 6 pm, June 21
