The Montessori Children’s Academy (MCA) currently serves more than 450 families, with children enrolled in its Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary/Middle School programs, at our three campuses located in Chatham, Morristown, and Short Hills, NJ.
MCA is committed to inspiring and motivating young children to learn by providing them with the finest educational experience following traditional Montessori principles. Validated by current scientific research on human learning and development, The Montessori Method is based
on the belief that learning is a natural process that evolves when we attend to children’s “sensitive periods” of growth and help them to realize their full potential. MCA adheres to this philosophy, and our beautiful, carefully prepared classrooms welcome children to explore, interact, and seek answers to their questions as they are ready. We at MCA respect, nurture, and expand the academic, social, and emotional gifts of each student while preserving the true spirit and purpose of childhood.
Montessori certified teachers at MCA help to cultivate independent thought within their students, and facilitate educational experiences beyond the classroom. Students learn to navigate through our academic and enhanced curricular areas and bridge classroom learning to real world encounters. In addition, MCA provides our students with opportunities to share their musical and artistic talents with family and friends and to plan and participate in charitable events to benefit those in need. All of these endeavors help to promote a joy of learning, in addition to critical thinking, cooperation, and civic responsibility, in our students. Ultimately, the goal of a Montessori education is to give all students the skills, motivation, and path to become independent, secure, responsible individuals who remain lifelong learners and caring, contributing members of society.
While all three schools offer the full range of Early Childhood options, the Short Hills campus is the home of MCA’s Elementary Program for grades 1-8. Here, our older students have the opportunity to experience multi-sensory learning not only within the classroom walls, but also through the use of our on-site outdoor classroom. This unique environment allows for hands-on lessons in science, art, journaling, and conservation. MCA Kindergarten and Elementary students are also given the opportunity to work firsthand with cutting edge technology, preparing them for the rapidly changing needs and expectations of our world.
Beyond the classroom, support services such as Speech and OT can be coordinated at all MCA campuses through our not-for-profit organization, MCA for Creative Learning. In addition, enrichment courses are offered for students through our partnership with LEAF Approach to Enrichments, and MCA Summer Camp is available for Preschool through Elementary ages. The Montessori Center for Teacher Development (MCTD), conducts its comprehensive Montessori teacher education program at the MCA Morristown campus where it prepares and empowers
Adult Learners to become exceptional, effective future Montessori educators. MCA is a Member School with the American Montessori Society, a member of the New Jersey Montessori Administrator’s Council, and a division of The Montessori Children’s Academy Family of Schools and Services.
