We now have Infant and Toddler Care at the Brody Family Early Learning Center. We believe that infants need to explore - that is how they learn - and that learning is fostered by our responsive teachers who observe and create an inspiring environment. We value each and every infant's individual needs and personalities and are committed to providing the best care to suite those needs. We emphasize all caregiving experiences, even feeding and diapering, as they all should be important times of unhurried interaction so each and every infant feels secure and nurtured in our safe and warm environment. We also offer a free infant playgroup for parents/caretakers can connect with other parents and babies and make new friends!
The core of our preschool program is based on the belief that each child is competent and capable. Children, as natural learners, are full of potential and are guided to explore and question their environment in order to engage in authentic learning. We incorporate Creative Curriculum, a national research-based program which enhances children's experiences through high-quality materials, training programs, developmental assessment, staff development and resources for parents. In our school, the integration of a Jewish expression of values and weekly Shabbat celebration also enhances the learning experience.
BRIDGES, A TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
Transitional Kindergarten, for children that miss the kindergarten age cut-off and children who may benefit from an extra year before moving on to kindergarten, is designed to enhance readiness for kindergarten learning. We will support children's love of learning and offer encouragement in areas that help develop social, emotional and
academic skills needed to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
Full-Day Kindergarten for 5 and 6 year olds combines a progressive academic curriculum and a warm and nurturing environment. The curriculum focuses on the whole child. Reading and literacy skills are developed through guided reading, phonemic awareness, shared reading, interactive read-alouds, creative writing and the integration of
other disciplines into the reading world. Everyday Math provides a hands-on approach to mathematics. Social Studies and Science are also part of the kindergarten program. Add in Jewish programming and specials in art appreciation, music, fitness and swim, and our kindergartners get a comprehensive start to their elementary school years!
We also offer a half-day kindergarten wrap-around program for children attending morning public school kindergarten. The perfect complement to kindergarten, the JCC's Kindergarten Wrap is academic-based to give
your child quality opportunities outside of his or her kindergarten class. The year centers around the "Wrap Around the World" theme which provides children with a virtual multicultural trip to various countries. Along the way, language, art, music and cooking are incorporated into the curriculum. It is a truly unique, fun and educational way to fill their year. In addition to the academic curriculum, there is a weekly Shabbat celebration and weekly swim instruction in the JCC's indoor pool. Supervised bus transportation is available from all Scotch Plains elementary schools and Westfield's Lincoln school. (Additional schools will be considered upon request.) All enrolled students are also picked up by bus during public school early dismissal days.
