New Jersey Camps for Kids
New Jersey summer camps: a time for kids to go to day camp, sleepaway camp, or teen and traveling camps. Summer programs give kids a chance to catch up on academics or meet other kids with similar special needs; referral services can help make the perfect match.
Camp Yachad-Jewish Community Center of Central NJ
The Jewish Community Center of Central NJ’s Brody Family Early Learning Center is committed to excellence in education and providing a safe, nurturing environment. We are inspired by the philosophy of Reggio Emilia which supports each participant in the learning process as a competent, capable learner. Children flourish as they interact with their physical and social environments. Our curriculum provides experiences that are meaningful and authentic. Our school celebrates many perspectives and integrates a Jewish expression of values into learning and living.
6-24 MONTHS: In our infant play group, child and parent (or caregiver) spend time learning together and getting to know new friends. In K’ton Ton Kids, 18-24 month toddlers play together after a transition to separation from their parent or caregiver. Activities change as children develop and grow.
PRE-SCHOOL: We incorporate Creative Curriculum, a national research-based program which enhances children’s experiences through high-quality materials, training programs, developmental assessment, staff development and resources for parents. In our school, the integration of a Jewish expression of values and weekly Shabbat celebration also enhances the learning experience.
BRIDGES, A TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN: For children who miss the kindergarten cut-off and children who may benefit from an extra year before moving on to kindergarten, Bridges is designed to enhance readiness for kindergarten learning. We support children’s love of learning and offer encouragement in areas that help develop social, emotional and academic skills.
KINDERGARTEN: Full-Day Kindergarten for 5 and 6 year olds combines a progressive academic curriculum and a warm and nurturing environment. Reading and literacy skills are developed through guided reading, phonemic awareness, shared reading, interactive read-alouds, creative writing and the integration of other disciplines into the reading world. Everyday Math provides a hands-on approach to mathematics. Social Studies and Science are also part of the program. Also included are Jewish programming, art appreciation, music, fitness and swim.
KINDERGARTEN WRAP: We also offer a half-day kindergarten wrap-around program for children attending morning public school kindergarten. Wrap is academic-based and centers around the "Wrap Around the World" theme which provides children with a virtual multicultural trip to various countries. Language, art, music and cooking are incorporated into the curriculum. There is also a weekly Shabbat celebration and weekly swim instruction in the JCC's indoor pool. Supervised bus transportation is available from many area schools.
KID-ZONE: Kid Zone is a state-licensed, secular, safe after school program for ages 3 through 8th grade. It is offered Monday through Friday with the option to choose the full week or specific days. The program runs from 2:30 – 6:00 p.m. for 3 – 4 year olds and from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. for kindergartners through 8th graders. Children are placed in different classrooms depending on their age and grade. Certified teachers and college-aged assistants staff each classroom and provide individualized homework assistance and supervision. Bus transportation is provided from area schools.
VACATION ZONE: The JCC’s Vacation Zone program, which has both preschool and grade school options, is a great way for your child to spend his or her school vacation days.
At Camp Yachad we offer a traditional day camp, travel camp, a performing arts specialty camp, a sports specialty camp and a counselor training program. All provide a memorable, fun and activity-filled experience where children are encouraged to grow as individuals, develop self-esteem, learn new skills and build friendships. We offer Jewish programming, but are also very proud to be a non-sectarian and diverse camp – open to everyone in our community.
DAY CAMP: Our day camp, for ages 18 months through 4th grade, is at the JCC in Scotch Plains and offers summer programs for children filled with a mix of sports, fine arts, movement, Judaic, dance, nature, arts and crafts, science and all of the extras to keep your child excited, interested, active and loving every moment of summer.
MACCABI SPORTS CAMP: Camp Yachad’s Maccabi Sports camp, a sports day camp held at the expansive Wardlaw-Hartridge campus is for 1st – 4th graders. It features multi-sports instruction and play including soccer, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse, tennis and basketball. Each day includes competitive play, and Fridays are tournament days. Instructional and free swim is also included.
TRAVEL CAMP: Camp Yachad's travel camp, based out of our Springfield site, provides a great summer filled with travel experiences for children ages 10 - 14 years. Depending upon the unit, travel can range from daily trips to beaches, aquariums, ballparks and water and amusement parks to extended overnight trips to locations such as Toronto, New Orleans and Lake Placid. Each unit returns to the JCC in Scotch Plains on Friday afternoons for a rockin' Shabbat celebration. Our Springfield site features a large swimming pool and open field space for any onsite activities.
Both our onsite and travel camps offer flexible week options: 4, 6, 7 or 8 weeks, and our younger day camp units also offer flexible day and time options. Door-to-door transportation is offered for all campers ages 3+. Central Bus Stop pick-ups are also available and lunch is included with all day (non-travel) programs.
SUMMER ACADEMY FOR PERFORMING ARTS: Camp Yachad's Summer Academy for Performing Arts is a unique theatre arts and dance camp experience for 5th through 8th graders, in partnership with the Union County Vocational Technical School (UCVTS) Academy for Performing Arts located in Scotch Plains. The campsite is the Academy's impressive state-of-the-art facility located minutes from the JCC. Sessions run for 2 weeks at a time and are offered twice a summer. Campers get a taste of the "real thing" with access to the Academy's black box theatre, dressing rooms, dance and acting studios.
LEADERS IN TRAINING: For campers entering 9th grade, we offer our Leaders in Training (L.I.T.) program which gives valuable hands-on leadership skills needed to be a successful summer camp counselor. L.I.T.s will alternate their weeks as camper and counselor, and L.I.T.s successfully completing at least one 4-week session of the program are accepted to work in camp the following summer as a Counselor in Training (C.I.T.).
