Description

Santa’s Paradise Express

A Christmas tradition since 1959, Strasburg Rail Road welcomes a very special visitor every November and December. That’s right, Santa himself will climb aboard and greet the families as they travel down the tracks to Paradise, PA and back. As a special treat, children ages 11 and under will receive a gift from Santa and his helper.

And don’t miss Mrs. Claus who will be available at the Station from 12-4 PM to help children finalize their letters to Santa! Bring a self-addressed stamped envelope and we’ll make sure Santa mails a reply to each boy and girl on his list.

Visitors of all ages will be charmed as they enjoy a ride aboard the Tinsel Trolley, a self-propelled motor car, and enjoy storybook readings of holiday classics aboard our heated stationary Caboose.

The Night Before Christmas Train

Sparkling skies, warmth from a potbelly stove, the aroma of freshly baked cookies, and magic in the air. Returning again this year, the popular Night Before Christmas Train runs on select Thursday and Friday evenings during the holiday season.  A portion of proceeds collected from the sale of Night Before Christmas Train tickets is donated annually to the Clinic for Special Children. This very unique and special train recreates the excitement and anticipation of Christmas Eve. A reader dressed in a Victorian nightshirt and cap will read Clement Clarke Moore’s classic poem, The Night Before Christmas, as the train rolls along. After the reading of the poem, passengers can enjoy a treat of milk and cookies. Children are also treated to storybook readings of holiday classics aboard our heated Caboose (stationary) and visitors of all ages can enjoy a ride aboard the Tinsel Trolley, a self-propelled motor car.

In the spirit of the season, kids may come dressed in pajamas, and just by attending this event, your participation helps a very worthy cause. A portion of proceeds collected from the sale of The Night Before Christmas Train tickets will be donated to support the work of the Clinic for Special Children.

Special thanks to Turkey Hill Dairy, Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn, Kitchen Kettle Village and Lancaster County Career & Technology Center, in-kind sponsors for the 2016 Night Before Christmas Train.

Christmas Tree Train

Ride aboard the Christmas Tree Train to Leaman Place Grove where you can choose a pre-cut Frasier or Douglas Fir tree and have it delivered by steam on a flatcar back to the station.

We are currently offering three Christmas Tree Train departure times. Trains will depart on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m for this exclusive train ride. (Tickets are purchased by depature time, and these trains will sell out. Purchase your tickets early.)

Once at Leaman Place Grove, passengers will have approximately one hour to choose and purchase that special Christmas tree. Watch it being loaded on the flatcar and enjoy free refreshments. Professional photographers will be available to capture that special memory. You will then be returned to the station to pick up your tree from the flatcar. Passengers aboard the Christmas Tree Train can expect to be returned to the East Strasburg Station one-and-a-half hours after departure. Friendly Strasburg Rail Road staff will assist you with loading your tree.  Back at the historic East Strasburg station, children will be treated to storybook readings of holiday classics aboard our heated Caboose (stationary) and visitors of all ages can enjoy a ride aboard the Tinsel Trolley, a self-propelled motor car.

The Christmas Tree Train runs independent of the regularly scheduled Santa’s Paradise Expresstrains.  Seating is limited, so guests are encouraged to purchase tickets early.
