Lincoln Center Out of Doors "Family Day" - Saturday, July 27 This summer’s “Family Day” will extend into the early evening for the first time. It will feature innovative, new work being created for and performed by the next generation of young artists, including many who have collaborated with Kronos Quartet whose 40th anniversary is being celebrated with special programs, throughout the first week of Lincoln Center Out of Doors 2013. All “Family Day” events are appropriate for children ages 5 and older. 2 pm Hearst Plaza Educator/musician CRAIG WOODSON creates easy-to-make instruments out of simple, everyday objects and materials such as Styrofoam cups, fishing line, plastic tubes, etc. He explores the origins of instruments across world cultures, starting with having the audience play body music. In an Out of Doors “Family Day” workshop, geared to ages 5-10, he’ll guide kids through making a “drumpet,” a combination drum and trumpet, which they’ll use for a play-along concert with Kronos Quartet Programs and artists subject to change. "Family Day" is sponsored by Disney.
