Ridge High School and Willow School art students will present an exhibit, “EarthHelpers: Environmental Concerns,” at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey from Saturday, February 10 to Sunday, March 11, 2018. A reception will be held on Thursday, February 22 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
The exhibit will be open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. except Monday, February 12 and Monday, February 19, 2018. Admission is free.
Focusing on environmental issues, the exhibition approaches environmental concerns for our planet through the eyes of two different age groups, resulting in a unique experience and amazing drawings and sculptures. Much of the work by Ridge High School students highlights critical concerns, while the elementary students from the Willow School addressed hopeful aspects to these problems. The two groups collaborated and shared responsibility creating sculptures using natural materials, out of which came “Earth Helper”.
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is nestled within the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. The wide variety of habitats includes: floodplains, swamps, rivers, intermittent streams, marshes, meadows, fields, forests, and natural and man-made ponds. These habitats provide homes for diverse plant and animal populations in this environmentally sensitive park. An environmental-based library is located within the Center itself.
