Editor-in-Chief

New Jersey Family, “the essential source for NJ moms,” is accepting applications for Editor-in-Chief. We plan to hire a multimedia visionary who will lead our content and audience development efforts in print, online, and in person. New Jersey Family is an award-winning regional publication with an intensely local focus to best serve its readers and advertisers. Only experienced, highly qualified candidates will be considered.

Do you have proven writing and editing ability in print and digital formats AND a track record producing innovative content? Are you entrepreneurial, and can you effortlessly shift from the big picture to projects that are insanely detailed? Do you have experience managing staff and meeting deadlines? Can you brainstorm story, video, and art concepts; line edit like a pro; recruit top writers; keep an editorial team on time and on budget; blog, tweet, post, and pin?

Primary responsibilities:

Oversees the execution of a monthly zoned magazine, a popular website, an active social media presence, regular eblasts, and multiple print supplements.
Initiates programs and promotions that grow readership and build audience engagement.
Develops and executes editorial calendars and storyboards that are relevant to readers and advertisers.
Represents the NJ Family brand at community events, in the media, and in area business circles.
Supervises the work of freelance writers, editorial staff, and graphic designer and provides creative direction as needed.
Establishes measurable editorial goals/metrics and monitors progress and forward momentum.
With publishers, develops branding messages and marketing promotions to increase profitability.
Actively cultivates communication with readers, users, and New Jersey moms to develop “Voice of the Customer.”
Stays abreast of trends in the publishing industry (print and digital), specifically with respect to parenting media.

Essential Skills

Understanding of journalistic excellence, best practices, and integrity.
Writing, copy editing, and proofreading; Chicago Manual of Style.
SEO and SEM competency and ability to apply the concepts to advance content planning and digital content development.
Mastery of Mac/Apple platform; Google docs; InDesign.
Organization and ability to multi-task effectively.
Outgoing, winning personality suitable to be the “face of NJ Family.”
Eye for digital and print design.

Director of Advertising

New Jersey Family is looking for a Director of Advertising to manage their sales team, develop an advertising strategy, and meet revenue goals for the company.

The ideal candidate will possess:

a minimum of 5 years of sales management experience in a publishing environment
problem-solving and negotiation skills
a proven track record selling print and online advertising
strong leadership abilities
excellent communications skills
