Tell us about your business.
Betty Galvan: My Friend Betty Says Digital Marketing Studio is dedicated to creating unique online strategies for businesses. We take the time to learn a business and develop customized plans. My clients range from individual service providers, such as insurance, wealth management and real estate agents, to brick-and-mortar shop owners.

What inspired the idea?
BG: After collaborating with local businesses for my lifestyle blog, I noticed many owners didn’t have a social media presence so I started to offer assistance with their digital marketing.

How do you differentiate your business?
BG: I work very closely with business owners to understand their product or service. I implement my research and understanding of their business to create a digital marketing strategy. I show them how a social media presence can augment and establish connectivity with consumers and their communities.

What’s the hardest part of juggling the kids and being your own boss?
BG: When you have your own business, you never stop. I have to pull myself away from work when my boys are home. I can’t focus on both at the same time for more than an hour or so. Luckily, my husband is supportive and takes over in the evenings.

What’s your best advice for parents looking to start their own businesses?
BG: When you start your own business, most of your free time has to be dedicated to your work. You have to be ready for major changes. I listen to business podcasts in the car when I pick the boys up from school or activities, and my workouts have been reduced to daily brisk walks with my dog. You’ll be surprised how much extra time you find in your day, but you have to maximize it.
