Advocare The Orthopedic Center provides pediatric and adolescent patients with the highest quality of care for orthopedic issues ranging from sports injuries to spinal curvatures, cerebral palsy, congenital disorders and trauma. One of the largest pediatric and adolescent orthopedic practices in the tri-state region, Advocare recently became affiliated with New York University, which allows the doctors to care for their patients locally while utilizing the state-of-the-art resources available at NYU.
"We’re excited to be able to provide outstanding care locally, but now families can rest assured that they can still continue their relationship with our physicians while having access to all of the resources of a world-class medical center,” says Dr. Mark Rieger, an assistant professor at NYU Medical Center and founder of Advocare The Orthopedic Center.
Known for his commitment to excellence among both patients and colleagues, Dr. Rieger’s expertise lies in the treatment of children and adolescents with sports injuries, scoliosis, fractures and disorders of the hip, shoulder, knee, ankle and foot. Dr. Rieger was the first surgeon in New Jersey to perform endoscopic spine surgery, the first to use ultrasound to evaluate pediatric hip disorders and the first to use the Ponseti technique to treat clubfeet non-surgically. He was also the first division chief of pediatric orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center.
“We are specifically trained to treat patients up to 21 years of age, and because we are working with young people we have made it our mission to become experts in minimally-invasive surgical techniques to prevent kids from having to undergo surgery whenever possible,” he says.
The doctors are now able to perform complex ACL surgeries, even in children with open growth plates, and the practice also offers a new x-ray technology for scoliosis patients that delivers the lowest dose of radiation.
“We treat our patients like family,” Dr. Rieger says. “We perform cutting-edge treatments to get kids back to the sports they love quickly and safely, but we also take the time to help educate families on how to help prevent these injuries from happening in the first place.”
Advocare The Orthopedic Center has treated thousands of children and has seen a wide variety of age-specific problems from newborns to young adults. The doctors have developed special interest in fracture/trauma care, and are experts in the unique field of pediatric sports medicine. They are also highly experienced in arthroscopically treating meniscal injuries and ACL tears in adolescents and teenagers.
The physicians also specialize in pediatric and adolescent trauma and hip disorders, and define success as getting patients back to full function and seeing them excel in their chosen sports. The group has been described as caring and talented by their patients and peers, and wins awards for excellence each year.
Drs. David Lin, Joshua Strassberg, Samara Friedman and Tamir Bloom love working with children. The talented doctors and surgeons work with their young patients and their families to achieve the best possible outcome with the least amount of surgical intervention so that children can get back to living their lives with minimal interruption.
"The doctors on our team are sub-specialty trained so we can offer the highest level of expertise in treating everything from sports and spinal injuries to trauma,” Dr. Rieger concludes. “Returning kids back to their optimal level of health—and knowing that we have made a difference in their lives—is the most rewarding thing about what we do."

At Allergy Consultants, P.A., Drs. Arthur Fost and David Fost find manageable solutions for children and adults with asthma, sinus disease and allergies. At their practices in Verona and Sparta, the doctors offer the most advanced diagnostic equipment and treatment plans for both their adult and pediatric patients.
The father-and-son team is compassionate and knowledgeable and always willing to listen to patients to determine the best course of action. The doctors have published scientific and clinical papers on asthma and allergies in medical journals, and they remain active in research, training and teaching. Drs. Fost are currently involved in a number of nationwide studies designed to develop new allergy and asthma treatments.
The doctors are joined in their offices by Dr. Antonio de la Cruz and Dr. Satya Narisety. Dr. de la Cruz has been associated with Allergy Consultants for many years, and has particular expertise and experience in eye and sinus issues. Dr. Narisety received her allergy training at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital and has done important research on new treatments in food allergies. All of the physicians at Allergy Consultants are board certified in allergy and immunology.
“Patients can always expect to leave our offices with a deeper understanding of their symptoms, rather than a quick prescription,” says Dr. David Fost, who helps his own daughter manage eczema, allergic rhinitis, and a peanut allergy. “We focus on the cause of the problem to help patients lead better lives without having to rely on medication.”
The doctors at Allergy Consultants are well-known for the compassion, care, and concern they show to each and every one of their patients, and they pride themselves on treating children and adults alike with respect and dignity. Allergy Consultants, P.A. has become one of Northern New Jersey’s premier medical practices for the treatment of allergies, asthma, sinus disease, and immune system disorders.
“Allergies and asthma affect millions of lives, but they can be managed effectively. It’s a rewarding feeling to know that so many patients trust their treatment to us because they consider us the best asthma and allergy specialists they can find,” says Dr. Arthur Fost. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College and earned his post-medical school training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Dr. David Fost is a diplomate of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Pediatrics. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, completed his internship and residency at the University Of Wisconsin’s Children’s Hospital, and underwent a fellowship in allergy/immunology at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, Colorado.
“We take care of patients of all ages, and form a very unique and special bond with families,” Dr. David Fost says.
All of the doctors are committed to giving back: Dr. David serves as a physician for a local school board and volunteers his time to youth sports, and Dr. Arthur has worked with malnourished children and families in foreign countries, including Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Guatemala.

Carlson Psychological Services • The COR Group
The owner of Carlson Psychological Services, Dr. Jennifer A. Carlson is a licensed psychologist and pediatric neuropsychologist whose compassionate, comprehensive approach helps promote positive change, alleviate emotional distress and address an array of psychological, social and behavioral issues.
She is also a co-founder and neuropsychologist of The COR Group, with locations in Closter, Ridgewood, Paramus and Cedar Grove. The practice provides services including individual and group therapy, testing, neurofeedback, speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, ABA, tutoring, sports psychology and other consulting services.
“By utilizing a team approach with so many related services, we've created an environment where we can provide the most comprehensive support for children and their parents,” says Dr. Carlson, a mother of twin daughters.
Dr. Carlson works with children, adolescents, adults, families, couples and groups. Her approach to psychotherapy with children integrates play therapy techniques, cognitive-behavior techniques, social skills and social problem-solving training. She conducts neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments in order to diagnose learning disabilities such as dyslexia or dysgraphia, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, executive functioning disorders and other neurological, neuropsychological and psychological disorders. She is also trained to address childhood issues such as bullying, sibling rivalry, divorce, learning disabilities, grief and loss, eating disorders, social skills deficits and low self-esteem.
She routinely collaborates with parents, teachers and other mental health or medical professionals to diagnose underlying issues and create steps towards positive change while helping to increase a child’s self-esteem and improve their self-confidence.
Every child is truly an individual, and I’m committed to working as part of a team to help each child reach their unique potential,” she says. “Whether the child is struggling with dyslexia or ADHD, it’s my goal to pinpoint the root area of weakness to ensure that these issues never build up to cause poor self-esteem, school avoidance or anxiety.”
Dr. Carlson received her undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University in counseling education services and master’s degrees in counseling psychology and school psychology from West Chester University and Pace University. She earned her doctoral degree in clinical child-school psychology from Pace University.
Dr. Carlson completed her doctoral externship clinical training at Rockland Children Psychiatric Center and her doctoral internship training at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYU Medical Center in the Inpatient and Outpatient Pediatric Psychology units.
In addition to her extensive clinical work, Dr. Carlson is also a certified school psychologist and has practical and in-depth working knowledge of the special education laws, processes and procedures in New Jersey and New York. She relies on her educational background to offer families her unique experience in procuring services for children with special needs or who may be in need of special education services, accommodations or modifications.
“I help parents understand their child’s educational rights, and at the same time my relationship with local school districts allows me to have a clear understanding of the level of services they can provide. Even something as simple as a visual-spatial issue that prevents the child from copying words from the chalkboard can develop into a more serious problem,” she explains. “I’m passionate about helping families have access to the services they need so their child can reach their full potential.”

The Cor Group
Dr. Galasso recently opened The COR Behavioral Group, a psychological practice in Paramus that offers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for autism and special needs associated with developmental disabilities. The team provides therapies that are designed to help each patient reach his or her full potential. Board certified behavior analysts are on hand to identify a child’s strengths and limitations and develop appropriate treatment goals and behavioral programs.
“What sets us apart is that we’ve created a one-stop shop for parents who need psychological services for their kids,” Dr. Galasso says. His practice offers both in-office sessions as well as home-based programs for its ABA and autism services. “It’s never a one-size-fits-all approach, and we tailor every treatment plan to fit each child and their family’s needs,” he adds.
The boutique practice limits the amount of patients they accept to provide more immersive, comprehensive care, and maintains a close network of physicians throughout New Jersey so children can receive the best care available.
“The majority of our services take place right in the child’s home, school and community where they’re most comfortable, so instead of just coming to see me for a one-hour session, some kids might be able to take advantage of 15-20 hours of services each week,” he says.
Dr. Galasso is passionate about creating adaptive and inclusive fitness and wellness opportunities for children and adults with intellectual, developmental, physical and emotional disabilities. He has focused on working with children and families since the beginning of his career.
“I’ve always believed in working together as a team with families to help kids reach their full potential—parents are often the most important people in a session,” he says. “I like to combine behavioral applications with a humanistic approach that’s completely inclusive of the entire family.”
Licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey, Dr. Galasso is a clinical, consulting and sport psychologist. He received his BA in psychology from Quinnipiac University, an MA in industrial/organizational psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University and his PsyD for clinical psychology at Alliant International University.
Dr. Galasso works with elite athletes on both an individual and team basis, and currently provides all psychological services for the Brooklyn Nets. He is a co-creator of the Special Spartans national event, an obstacle course race for children with disabilities, as well as the Omnes Foundation, which is dedicated to funding these opportunities. The practice also creates custom fitness plans for children with developmental disabilities and educates families on the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
“I want to become an advocate for the patients we work with; we want to make these kinds of experiences available for all children so they can take advantage of the recreational opportunities that many families take for granted,” he explains. “We also want to be sure we’re helping kids build functional skills that they can apply in the real world, whether they’re at the library, the mall or on a playground."
