Kick It Old School at a Drive-In Movie

Gas up the DeLorean and watch classic films (and trending flicks) at our fave drive-in spots.

Take a trip back to the 1950s, when guys danced to rock ‘n’ roll and girls jitterbugged at the local sock-hop. Though the hairstyles have changed, drive-in movies are still all the rage. Here’s where to get a blast from the past in NJ.

Delsea Drive-In

Where: 2203 South Delsea Dr., Vineland
When: Memorial Day-Labor Day/Thursday-Sunday; After Labor Day-October/Friday-Saturday
Price: $11/adults, $6/ages 4-11, free/ages 3 and under
Deets: Ranked 23rd in “New Jersey's Top Tourist Attractions” by NJBIZ, this 1949 site is the last standing drive-in movie theater in New Jersey. The theater has two screens for viewers to enjoy and now offers Pet Sunday, a furry friend-inclusive event, starting June 10.

Brick Summerfest

Where: Windward Beach Park, Brick
When: August 10 and 17
Price: Free admission
Deets: Join Brick in its annual Summerfest activities, including outdoor concerts, a car show and two drive-in movie nights. Catch Despicable Me 3 on August 10 and Jumanji on August 17. Movies begin at dusk. All children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Mendham Borough Movie Night

Where: Gazebo, Mendham Park
When: July 18, 8:30 pm; August 1, 8:15 pm
Price: Free admission
Deets: Honey, it’s time for Mendham’s Movie in the Park nights. This year, enjoy two drive-in movies with the whole fam. Catch Honey, I Shrunk the Kids on July 18 and Coco on August 1. Space is limited, so get there early for a good parking spot. End the night with your fave summer treat, ice cream.

Warwick Drive-In Theater

Where: 5 Warwick Tpk.,Warwick, NY
When: Open daily, 7-10:30 pm
Price: $11/adult, $8/kids 4-11, free/ages 3 and under
Deets: Road trip! Drive up north for a movie under the stars every night of the week. Stop by the snack bar for nachos with cheese sauce, ice cream or a cheeseburger and park your car to catch a flick. Pets are welcome and credit cards are accepted (with a $10 minimum).

Becky's Drive-In Theatre

Where: 4548 Lehigh Dr., Walnutport, PA
When: Open daily, schedule subject to change
Price: $13/adults, $6/ages 3-12, free/ages 2 and under
Deets: If you’re near Pennsylvania, swing by and celebrate their 72nd anniversary. This venue plays a combo of new titles and old favorites that the kiddos won’t want to miss. The movie’s sound is played over the radio, so feel free to crank up the volume for  your car full of mini-film buffs. Showings start at dusk.

Duke Island Park Movies

Where: Duke Island Park, Bridgewater
When: July 20, July 27, August 3
Price: Free admission
Deets: If you want to stretch out while watching the movie, bring your own blanket or lawn chair and sprawl out on the grass, or stay in your car and scarf down popcorn (we won’t judge). Stop by July 20 for The Parent Trap or July 27 for Kung Fu Panda. Refreshments will be sold on premises. Weather permitting; call 908-722-1200 for more information. On August 3, head to the Warrenbrook Pool in Warren Twp. for a showing of Shark Tale.
