Cape May MAC

Cape May is one of the country’s most famous haunted destinations, which means there are, of course, tons of Cape May Ghost Tours. Emlen Physick Estate, the town’s original haunted house, should be at the top of your list. Explore the property and learn about Victorian superstitions and spiritualism, plus modern ghost hunting methods. Hop a lift on a signature trolley for Ghosts of Cape May or Ghosts of the Lighthouse Trolley Tours, based on the findings of psychic medium Craig McManus (McManus is guiding his own Ghost Walks on Oct. 5, 19 and 20). Ride down the dark streets with gas lamps or trek 199 steps to the top of the lighthouse where you may sense keepers past. Another Cape May highlight: Saturday Ghost Walks at Historic Cold Spring Village are chilling lantern-led tours with local medium Bob Bitting. Discover notorious invisible guests and get in on findings from paranormal investigators. Wrap it up with a pint at the tour’s starting place, Cold Spring Brewery.

Ghost Tour of Ocean City

Ghost Tour of Ocean City hosts events on weekends through Halloween. A guide will take you along streets (and haunted houses!) rich with history and fill you in on local folklore. Walk with Ghosts Burlington (Oct. 26-27) features poltergeists in the form of pirates, witches and beyond. Visit legendary residences and learn the macabre stories that put them on the map before braving one of NJ’s oldest cemeteries. Princeton Tour Company will also lead you through a graveyard featuring celebrity residents like Grover Cleveland and Aaron Burr, Jr. (Oct. 13-27, Fri.-Sat.). The Halloween Cemetery Visits and Ghost Hunts cover on-campus legends, plus provide ghost hunting equipment like EMF meters and dowsing rods.

Paranormal Museum

Asbury Park’s Ghosts and Legends Downtown Tour is another seaside spook with lantern-led trails that revisit notorious crimes and spirits. Don’t head home without visiting Paranormal Books & Curiosities’ and the Paranormal Museum upstairs to learn about famous spirits, haunted objects and more.Saturdays in Middlesex County get extra eerie thanks to East Brunswick Ghost Walks. Bring a flashlight for this guided stroll with pro paranormal investigators. Woodbridge Ghost Walk Tours have been a fall staple for a decade. Take a 40-minute tour of the state’s oldest chartered settlement with costumed guides from the Revolutionary War and beyond. Tours leave every 15 minutes on October 20 starting at 6:30 pm; the later you go, the scarier it’ll be.
