Best Ice Cream (and Frozen Custard) Down the Shore

Ice cream parlors at the Jersey Shore

Here’s where our readers recommend you go:

(from North to South):

Monmouth County

EDITOR'S PICK: Niki Maccanico's Homemade Ice Cream, Belmar: Reader's give this a 10 out of 10. "Forget any other ice cream shop along the shore. This is the place to be." Get the Blueberry Ice Cream when it's in season.

Ocean County (north)

Photo from Iceberg Ice Cream in LavalletteEDITOR'S PICK: Iceberg Ice CreamLavallette: Readers describe their gastronomic experience here as "magical." Iceberg offers: Dairy Free, Fat Free, Gluten Free, Low-in-Fat and No Sugar options. 40 different flavors of handmade soft serve and hard serve. All ingredients locally sourced. Try the Toasted Coconut!

Ocean County (south, Long Beach Island)

EDITOR'S PICK: Jeffreeze Old-Fashioned Ice Cream, West Creek: Great for those hot, sunny, smoldering days. And it's the creamiest ever. They have a super adorable playground for kids! They also make these fantastic sundaes. "I'd go every day if I could, but it would gets expensive and they'd get chubby!"

Atlantic County

EDITOR'S PICK: In Atlantic County, it's the "Battle of the Custards." Custard Castle in Mays Landing barely edges out the others. Their ice cream and custard are the creamiest. "The BEST custard to be found. Worth the ride." Custard Castle is great for families driving to PA. A small family owned business.

Cape May County

EDITOR'S PICK:  Hassles Ice Cream, North Wildwood: If you're an ice cream snob, there's no other choice. The hand-dipped cones, sundaes and banana splits are huge and delicious! People rave about the homemade waffles and real whipped cream! Don't be afraid of the line out the door; it moves quickly. Stick it out, it's worth it!
