Advocare The Orthopedic Center provides pediatric and adolescent patients with the highest quality of care for orthopedic issues involving sports, spine and all problems related to bones, joints and muscles. One of the largest pediatric and adolescent orthopedic practices in the tri-state area, the practice is affiliated with local hospitals and New York University Medical Center so the doctors can care for children locally while taking advantage of the state-of-the art resources at NYU.

“We pride ourselves on providing outstanding care here in New Jersey, and now families can continue their relationship with our physicians while having access to the resources of a world-class medical center,” says Dr. Mark Rieger, assistant professor at NYU Medical Center and founder of Advocare The Orthopedic Center.

Cutting-Edge Technology

Always a step ahead, the practice continues to be a pioneer in minimally-invasive spine surgery and low-dose radiation techniques, including a soon-to-be-installed X-ray machine for scoliosis patients that emits 10 times less radiation than standard X-rays. To continue to provide the best care for patients, the practice now offers expanded evening and weekend walk-in hours as well as a smartphone app to provide added convenience for busy families.

Known for his commitment to excellence among both patients and colleagues, Dr. Rieger’s expertise lies in the treatment of fractures, sports injuries, scoliosis and disorders of the shoulder, knee, ankle and foot. Dr. Rieger was the first surgeon in New Jersey to perform endoscopic spine surgery, use ultrasound to evaluate pediatric hip disorders and use the Ponseti technique to treat clubfeet non-surgically, and he served as the first division chief of pediatric orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center.

“We treat our patients like family,” Dr. Rieger says. “We perform cutting-edge treatments to get kids back to the activities they love quickly and safely, but we also take the time to help educate families on how to help prevent injuries from happening.”

Kindness and Empathy for Young Patients

Dr. David Lin has treated thousands of children and has treated a variety of age-specific problems from newborns to young adults. He has a special interest in fracture/trauma care and is an expert in the unique field of pediatric sports medicine. Dr. Lin is highly experienced in arthroscopically treating meniscal injuries and ACL tears in adolescents and teenagers. “It’s exciting to work with children—they keep me young at heart, and I love their resilience,” he says.

Dr. Joshua Strassberg specializes in pediatric and adolescent trauma, sports injuries and hip disorders, and defines success as getting patients back to full function and seeing them excel in their chosen sports. Dr. Strassberg is an expert in the latest arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures, including techniques for reconstructing the ACL in children. “I enjoy having the opportunity to relate to kids and make them feel at ease,” he says.

Making a Difference

The doctors at Advocare The Orthopedic Center achieve the best possible outcome with the least amount of surgical intervention so that children can get back to living their lives with minimal interruption. “The doctors on our team are sub-specialty trained so we can offer the highest level of expertise in treating everything from sports and spinal injuries to trauma,” Dr. Rieger says. “Returning kids back to their optimal level of health—and knowing that we’ve made a difference in their lives—is the most rewarding thing about what we do."
