If you love hitting the slopes in the winter and splashing about Aquatopia while it’s frigid outside—Camelback’s year-round indoor water park—you’ll enjoy the resort’s awesome new fall nighttime expeditions. And if you’ve never been before you’ll flip over the gorge views and have the best screen-free weekend with the kids. Here are four new can’t-miss Monster Mountain attractions only open until the end of this month:

1. Fly down the Lights Out zip line
Grab your harness and head to the top of the 1,000-feet zip line at night for an after-dark ride through the trees. It’s a quick thrill and not too high for those who may find the parent 4,000-feet Zipflyer a bit extreme. Keep an eye out below for ghoulish creatures lurking in the bushes as you race down the double barrel tension wires.

2. Enjoy family time at the Kid’s Craft Zone
Take a break in between rides and head to the craft tent over by CBK Lodge to paint pretty pumpkins, make sand art, color t-shirts or try your hand at apple chuckin’. Check in advance about start times for these festivities to make sure you don’t miss out on the fun. Prices range from $3 to $10 for most of the activities.

3. Buckle up for Monster Coaster
This ride is crazy! You can’t help but scream and laugh at the same time as you zoom down the rails at an insane speed. Don’t worry, you control the breaks, so go as fast or as slow as you like. You might be riding in the dark but the roaring bear and other animatronic beasties on the way down will light up your night. Carts seat one or two people and kids must be accompanied by an adult.

4. Tiptoe through Kartrite’s Kurse haunted house
End the night with a walk through the eerie 17-room cavern filled with animatronic spooky skeletons, pesky pirates and moaning mummies. Beware the wandering creatures, too, but there are no clowns to be found in this haunted house—the characters are based on explorer Kartrite Van Der Berris’ own expeditions. The attraction is good for ages 7 and up, though it’s very dark in some of the rooms. Our favorite part was the whirling glow-in-the-dark tunnel—dare you to cross the bridge and not get dizzy!

Good to know: You don’t have to spend overnight at the resort to check out the expeditions or splash around in the water park (you can now buy day passes to the park for $59 per person) but staying does have its perks. Aside from having a couple of days to cram in as many of the activities as possible and totally wear out the kids, you’ll receive up to four passes for one of the Monster Mountain Adventures plus unlimited access to Aquatopia. General admission tickets to the haunted house, monster coaster and lights out zipline cost $10 each.

Other stuff to do:

  • If you need a time-out, Arcadia is jam-packed with games for kids to play. From the K2 Klimb—a multi-level ropes course for kids and adults—to Skeeball, mini bowling and other itty-bitty kid games. We love that the amusements are laid out in age-appropriate zones. Redeem tickets for cool (good quality) prizes in the Treasure Trove.

  • Challenge yourself to the half- or full-length TreeTops Adventure Course. With staff to help you along the way, you’ll navigate more than 100 obstacles including ropes, swing bridges, high wires and cargo nets. Plan ahead though, these courses take 3 to 4-and-a-half hours to complete.

  • Want some Me Time? Yep, there’s a spa. ‘Nuff said!

  • There are plenty of family-friendly places on-site to eat including buffet-style dining at Hemispheres or late-night bites at Trail’s End Pub.

  • If you love to shop or want to get ahead on holiday gifts on your way home, check out The Crossings Premium Outlets, located a mile down the road from Camelback.
